Life at Manty’s
Manty's is our first children's home, in East Sussex.
It looks pretty ordinary from the outside. That's rather the point.
Inside, it's a home shaped by the children who live here and the adults alongside them. There are busy mornings and quiet evenings, dinners around the table, music playing, arguments over what to watch, friends visiting, laughter, difficult days, things going wrong and people finding their way back to one another.
We don't want Manty's to feel like somewhere children are simply placed.
We want it to be somewhere they can live, belong and be themselves… whatever they choose to call it.
There isn't really an ordinary day.
Mornings.
Someone's looking for something they definitely left right there. Breakfast, bags, reminders, getting out of the door.
Coming back.
Sometimes there's lots to say about the day. Sometimes there isn't. Both are okay. We don’t push. We don’t pry.
Around the table.
Dinner might mean everyone eating together. It might mean strong opinions about what's been cooked. Sometimes it means takeaway.
Doing things.
Swimming, football, shopping, days out, seeing friends, holidays and sometimes absolutely nothing.
Evenings.
Music, phones, television, games, showers, snacks, conversations.
Your space.
Your bedroom is yours. Your things, your choices, your space to make your own.
Difficult days.
They happen here too. People get cross. Things go wrong. The relationship will always be there.
The place itself
Manty's is in East Sussex, close to the coast. It's a small house in an ordinary residential neighbourhood and deliberately so.
There are two children's bedrooms, living room, a kitchen and dining area, and a garden. Children can make their bedrooms their own, have friends visit and use the house as somewhere to actually live rather than somewhere that needs to stay looking like a children's home.
We're close to the sea, parks, shops and plenty of places to get out and do things. And when staying in sounds better, that's fine too.
Manty's isn't designed to look impressive. It's designed to be lived in.
