This bit is for you

If you're looking at this because someone has talked to you about living at Manty's, you probably have questions

Or you might not.

You might want to know what your bedroom looks like, whether your friends can come over, what the Wi-Fi is like, who the adults are, what the rules are, or whether you'll still get to do the things you already enjoy.

You might also be wondering what happens if you don't want to live here.

All of those are fair questions.

So we've tried to answer some of them here..

Things you might want to know

Do I have to call Manty's home?
No. You can call it Manty's, the house, home, or something else entirely. We won't decide what it means to you.

Can I make my bedroom mine?
Yes. It's your space. We want you to have a say in how it looks and what you have around you.

Can my friends come over?
Yes. Living in a children's home shouldn't mean missing out on normal things like having a friend round. Sometimes adults will need to think about plans and keeping everyone safe, but the starting point isn't automatically “no”.

What if I don't like one of the adults?
You don't have to like everybody. We won't expect you to pretend.

What if I'm really angry?
Then you're really angry! We'll try to understand what's happened and help keep everyone safe. Being angry doesn't make you a bad person and it doesn't make us stop caring about you.

Will adults know everything about me?
We'll be given information so we can look after you properly, but a file isn't the same as knowing you. We'll get to know you over time.

Do I have to talk about things I don't want to talk about?
No. We'll be interested in you and we'll check you're okay, but we don't need to turn every car journey or quiet moment into a conversation.

A few things we'd like you to know.

You don't have to like us straight away.

You don't have to call Manty's home.

You are allowed to have a bad day.

You are allowed to disagree with adults.

Adults get things wrong too.

You can tell us when we do.

You don't have to earn our care.

We'll get to know each other. There's no rush.
