Hi, I’m Dan.

Registered Manager

I started working with children in schools, before somehow finding my way into residential care. I’m very glad I did.

I absolutely love my job.

I’m the Registered Manager at Manty’s, which means technically I’m responsible for quite a lot of serious things. In reality, you’re just as likely to find me cooking dinner, cleaning, playing cards, or sitting around talking about absolutely nothing.

I care a lot about getting this work right. Not perfect, I don’t think any of us manage that, but making sure children live somewhere they are genuinely known, cared about and wanted.

A few things about me

What might you learn quite quickly?
I’m competitive about things that absolutely do not require competition. I’ll probably have music playing somewhere, and there’s a reasonable chance I’ll make up a song about whatever is happening.

What do I love about this job?
The ordinary bits. Sitting around talking rubbish. A car journey. Someone appearing in the kitchen while I’m cooking. Laughing about something that happened three days ago. And I do love a card game!

What does love-led care mean to me?
That children shouldn't have to earn our warmth. It means being able to hold a boundary and still be kind, getting things wrong and repairing them, noticing the little things, and making sure a difficult day never becomes a reason for a child to wonder whether we still care about them.

Children who live with us should know that they matter to us. Even on the difficult days.
