Hi, I’m Amanda
Support Adult
I've worked in residential childcare for a few years now, and although I never imagined this would be the career I ended up in. I honestly can't imagine doing anything else now. I'm a caring, down-to-earth person and I really value the relationships I build with the children. I love getting involved in the everyday things, whether that's going out and having adventures, helping with something they're interested in, or just sitting together having a chat and a laugh.
A few things about me
What might you learn quite quickly about me?
That I can probably talk for England! I love a good chat and I will happily listen to whatever they want to tell me, no matter how random it is. They'll also probably learn quite quickly that I'm always up for getting involved, whether it's an activity, making a video or something they've decided they want to teach me. And I'm definitely not afraid to make a fool of myself if it gets them laughing! I love being silly.
What do I love about this job?
It's the little things for me. I love seeing the children enjoying themselves and doing exciting things, but some of my favourite moments are the plain ordinary ones. Sitting together, chatting about our day, watching something on TV, cooking, having a laugh or listening to them tell me something they're really excited about.
What does love-led care mean to me?
For me, love-led care is about showing a child that you care about them even when things aren't going well. It's easy to be there when they're happy, settled and having a good day. It's being able to stay patient, consistent and caring when they're struggling too. Whatever has happened, they should still know that they're valued, that you're there for them and help them feel safe. That one difficult moment doesn't change how you feel about them.
